Be Open To Differing Opinions – Coaching Tip of the Day
Paradox is balance. Be open to dissenting views and opinions knowing that they do not have to change yours or invalidate yours.
Each to their own. You have as much right to your beliefs and feelings as anyone else has to theirs.
There is no need to react to the thoughts or opinions, or even judgment, of others that you do not agree with or view the same way. Difference is healthy.
Tolerating different thoughts and opinions and being present in the moment without attaching to them or over-investing in being right or validated is the way to more freely engage in interacting and connecting people.
Just because someone disagrees with you, it doesn’t mean that they are invalidating you. They can’t invalidate you, regardless, unless you allow them to get into your head. They can’t invalidate you unless that is what you choose to believe. Feeling invalidated leaves you out of balance. It means that you aren’t validating yourself enough. Self-validation is an inside job.
The more we can be fully open and present to the differing opinions of others, the more we can and will learn.
