If Jennifer Love Hewitt is Fat God Help All Women in This Crazy Sizeist Culture
Okay, we as a society have lost our minds now. That’s it, it has happened. Jennifer Love Hewitt has been criticized as being "fat". Get out of here. What does that truly make the rest of us then? Don’t answer that!
What is this world coming too? Where has common sense gone? What is western cultural and society chasing in its judgement of women and size? What is with this obsession that is now focused on the size ZERO for God’s sake? I mean really, zero? Would this still patriarchal world finally be satiated if women got so thin they just simply disappeared?
And … isn’t by its very definition the size zero an oxymoron anyway?
Love Hewitt, in response to the media scrutiny of pictures of her taken in a bikini recently, has this statement on her web site: "To set the record straight, I’m not upset for me, but for all the girls out there that are struggling with their body image."
What is with all this focus on celebrities, firstly. Secondly, how could anyone in their right mind define Jennifer Love Hewitt as fat? Come on really? Will this senselessness not stop until all women have disappeared? I say that because God knows even bones may be judged as too fat soon, you know?
Okay, I don’t lack for size, I am larger than average and certainly, am huge compared to a size zero. I am substancial. I don’t understand what is substanical or coveted about size zero. Most women are average to actually overweight these days. The way most female celebrities look is far from the norm in everyday life.
Speaking now, not just of body size, or woman’s body size, specifically, but isn’t zero, the number, a reflection of less to the point of nothing? Zero, literally refers to the absence of quantity.
I don’t know about you but I equate zero with something that simply isn’t – not something that is, let alone something that has value and that is preferred.
Why are women allowing themselves to be defined, firstly by a still male-driven ideal of what "sexy" or attractive is? Why are women questing after some sickly-revered lack of size? Why are women so scrutinized based upon their sizes in culture today? Why are women buying into this? Do women just live to please some ridiculous and narcissistic male notion of "ideal"? I absolutely don’t get it. I don’t think I really want to even try to wrap my head around it, let alone understand it. Value and worth come from within. Physical beauty, while it is in the eye of the beholder – where it should be left – is not the sum total of beauty at all.
Hey, don’t worry guys, (or the fat-phobic of any gender or orientation) I hear that they are working now to develop machines that are capable of having sex with people – no kidding. Now if they make these machines in size zero, tell me how will you even find them to, well, engage them?
"A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be," Hewitt responded in a post Thursday. "And being a size 0 doesn’t make you beautiful."
"To all girls with butts, boobs, hips and a waist," she wrote, "put on a bikini – put it on and stay strong."
Well not all of us want to wear a bikini but hey it is high time that we started enlightening ourselves as a society about the abusive nature of devaluing women’s based upon the size of their bodies to the point of saying a size 2 is fat. That is just senseless.
Young girls are dying people, yes dying, trying to be this oxymoronic size zero. We are valuing all the wrong things. This fat-phobic culture of the thinner-the-better has reached its apex. It has reached a climax in not only its devalution of actual fat women but its negation of what should be obvious – life is not a one-size-fits all reality.
Again, another example of the polarized and limited thought process of the masses. Again, cultural distraction to the point of utter absurdity.
Why?
