The Wisdom of Pets
Pets hold out much wisdom for us if we are open to it. They have such kind, unassuming and gentle ways of comforting us when we hurt, making us laugh, keeping us such unconditionally loving company.
The relationships that we have with our pets are teachers of sacred lessons. We share an intimacy with our pets that is harder and harder to find and share with people.
Pets, and yes, even cats, are loyal. My cat, while sometimes aloof, and adept at making what they want to happen only when they want it and that type of thing have a way also of just being so close when you most need them to be. Dogs are so compassionate. Dogs empathize.
The true wisdom of pets is realized in and through their less complicated lives. Lives driven by instinct more than the complications that result in our lives from all that we think about.
In their infinite wisdom pets follow instincts that don’t let them down. Pets in many ways are the most spiritual connections we can experience. There are no hidden agendas – well except maybe when my cat Baylee gets overly sweet when the food dish has been empty a while. But they are just who they are. Simple, loving, available, consistent, non judgemental – wise, wonderful, and loyal.
Each one of us could really learn a lot from our pets. They can teach us a lot about following our instincts and trusting our gut-reactions. They can teach us a lot about what it means to just be and what it means to live fully in the moment.
I watch my cats chasing a fly and that for them is pure joy, instinct in operation and those moments are totality to them – so complete.
I watch my dogs playing tuggy. I see that when one cuddles up with me the other one picks up a toy and tries to lure the one closet to me away from me so that they can get closer. I see their eagerness to please me always. They are loyal beyond description.
Dogs wait patiently. Dogs watch everything we do. They are so attuned to our schedules and routines.
Pets reveal to us the power of now. When I watch my dogs or cats and when I interact with them I know that I am interacting with God. The spiritual nature of these relationships can and do impart to us wisdom that grows from the trust, commitment, companionship, loyalty, and uncomplicated authenticity of these sacred souls.
If you pay attention your cat or dog can and will move the spirit within you – that sacred spirit that will share its wisdom with you and effect the changes you need and the increased awareness you seek into whatever you find most challenging in your life right now.
