A Student of Life

Open to the lessons that are still works in progress from any unresolved issues from your past. To be open to the pain, open to increasing awareness, and open to the humbling reality of your humanness is to be a student of life.

A student of life is a person who is open to the reality of his or her vulnerability. A student of life knows that you cannot protect yourself and learn at the same time. You have to make a choice. Do you risk or do you protect?

If you choose to protect you keep yourself walled off from endless possibilities. And, as you wall yourself off from others and the world through protectiveness , defensiveness, and aloofness, you trap yourself in the very pain that continues to cause you to be too closed to find the relief you may really need today.

A student of life makes an active choice to live the examined life. To grieve when there is pain and sadness, to feel what feelings arise and need attention, to soothe and nurture one’s own pain. A student of life also actively seeks to participate in the light moments, the laughter, and the joy that just is whenever we choose to tap into it.

Be open. Risk. Be reasonably vulnerable with your heart. Seek insight and understanding. Know who you are. Be true to who you are. Be open. Be willing to learn – always willing to learn. There is so much to learn in life.

A student of life knows that life is a journey that requires active participation, an open mind and an open heart to be lived as fully as possible. A student of life knows how to be humble in the face of all that life has to offer – the happy and the sad, the easy and the difficult, the peaceful and the turbulent.

You are never to young or to old to be a student of life. Be a student of life. There is so much to learn. Always.
