I am a Canadian woman just riveted to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and its unfolding change-making history in action. Hillary Clinton put 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling blazing a new trail for young girls and for women.Barack Obama , having been acclaimed the party’s Presidential Candidate today, leaving many African-Americans, including African-American men crying, was an amazingly moving moment in American History.

Change is the only thing that really does paradoxically stay the same. Change is a staple in our lives – it is a constant to varying degrees, or at least in certain stages of our lives.

Barack Obama has chosen Joe Biden for his running mate – to be his Vice President. While there are a lot of positive things being said about this choice I wonder how many of Hillary Clinton’s supporters are only going to be further disenfranchised by this choice. And, by the news that apparently Clinton wasn’t even vetted in consideration of being on the short list of candidates for Obama’s running mate.

Who will Barack Obama pick as his pick for the Vice President should he win the Presidency of the United States? It’s been the talk of all the news shows and endless political pundit banter for the last few days.

I am often humbled by all that is beyond the obvious moment. Of course, what is beyond any obvious moment is anything and everything that we do not grasp or hold awareness of in any unfolding moment. Each moment is so rich with context, texture, lessons and experience. Each moment has such meaning and purpose.

In this world there will always be some people who, for whatever constellation of reasons, need to tear down others in order to feel okay about themselves. There will always be people that cross our paths to criticize us and to attempt to dump a chunk of their own lostness, brokenness, and negativity upon us.

Last Wednesday’s horrific beheading of 22 year old Tim McLean on a Greyhound Bus in Manitoba, Canada, defies all logic and leaves one lost for words. A senseless tragedy of unspeakable violence. An innocent young man, by all accounts a very peaceful young man, minding his own business as he rode a bus stabbed to death and beheaded by a stranger.
